Charles Sturt University will host international and Australian experts in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and image processing at a major conference in Port Macquarie in late November.
The Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA) Conference 2023 will be staged at the picturesque Sails Resort in Port Macquarie from Tuesday 28 November to Friday 1 December.
General Chair of the conference is Dr Anwaar Ulhaq (pictured left at top), Senior Lecturer in the Charles Sturt School of Computing, Mathematics, and Engineering in Port Macquarie.
Dr Ulhaq said the DICTA Conference will bring together some of the brightest minds in the field of AI and image processing and he is excited about the opportunity to showcase Charles Sturt’s contributions in these fields.
“The DICTA Conference 2023 will cover a diverse range of topics and presentations, and promises to be a hub of knowledge exchange, collaboration, and inspiration for researchers and industry professionals alike,” Dr Ulhaq said.
“As the AI landscape continues to evolve, events like these play a crucial role in shaping the future of technology and its applications in various domains.
“Charles Sturt University AI researchers will present ground-breaking work in quantum AI and remote sensing, demonstrating the University’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation.”
Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement (Port Macquarie) Ms Kate Wood Foye (second from left) is the local Organising Chair of DICTA 2023.
Ms Wood-Foye said the conference is expected to draw nearly 100 national and international researchers to Port Macquarie and boasts an impressive line-up of keynote speakers.
“These include Professor Yaser Sheikh, Vice President of Research at Meta; Professor Toby Walsh, Chief Scientist at University of NSW AI Institute; Professor Nathan Jacobs at Washington University in St Louis, Missouri, USA; Professor Simon Lucey at the Australian Institute of Machine Learning; and Professor Mohammed Bennamoun at the University of Western Australia,” she said.
“There will also be a range of research presentations by the University’s own AI, data mining and image processing academics and researchers.
“A significant highlight of the event is the industry expo featuring prominent organisations such as MathWorks and the Australian Government Defence Science and Technology Group (DST) showcasing the latest advancements and applications in AI technology.”
Dr Ulhaq said his approach to the DICTA 2023 conference transcends traditional conference boundaries and his aim is to steer the event towards new horizons by creating a platform for collaboration between academia, local government, industry, and the student community.
“Beyond the conference venue, I emphasise the significance of inclusivity and collaboration in advancing AI research,” he said.
“With a commitment to community engagement, DICTA 2023 becomes a catalyst for synergy, uniting stakeholders in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
“Charles Sturt University’s vision for the future of AI extends beyond research papers to shaping a collaborative landscape that resonates with the spirit of community and progress.”
Expect in-depth coverage and insights as the DICTA 2023 conference unfolds later this year.
