Charles Sturt University (CSU) and Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) have called for applications from regional young people looking for assistance with study and entering the radio industry.
Mr David Maxwell, lecturer in radio and advertising in the CSU School of Communication and Creative Industries in Bathurst, said this is the second year that the CSU-SCA Regional Radio Endorsement Program has been offered.
"Last year we recruited 10 students for the Bachelor of Communication (Radio) from regional Australia through the program, and we are hopeful we will recruit more this year," Mr Maxwell said.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for young people interested in joining the exciting world of radio and starting out in a radio career across regional Australia while gaining formal qualifications and industry experience that will provide an employment advantage when they graduate.
"We thank SCA for their enthusiastic support of Charles Sturt University, the Regional Radio Endorsement Program, and Commercial Radio Australia, the sponsors of the CSU Bachelor of Communication (Radio) course."
The regional radio recruitment program is designed to find those young people who have a desire and interest to have a career in radio. After selection by SCA they are given entry to the CSU Bachelor of Communication (Radio) without any further application hurdles.
The promotion runs on SCA regional radio stations throughout August, and potential applicants can obtain more details about the Regional Radio Endorsement Program and apply via the SCA website.
SCA Executive Director (Regional) Mr Rick Lenarcic said, "Southern Cross Austereo is proud to partner with Charles Sturt University on the Regional Radio Endorsement Program. It is a great initiative and opportunity for Southern Cross Austereo to continue to lead the way with finding the next generation of talent for regional commercial radio. Last year we recruited and endorsed 10 candidates who have commenced studies at Charles Sturt University and continue to be mentored by regional stations. We look forward to the same success with this year's program."
Mr Maxwell said CSU has had great success over the past 10 years placing graduate students with member stations of Commercial Radio Australia which sponsors the Bachelor of Communication (Radio) degree.
"Many graduates still work in regional Australia, and this latest recruitment venture assists in expanding the regional connection," he said.
The Regional Radio Endorsement Program sees CSU and SCA work together to find the next generation of radio talent for on-air and off-air roles. Local SCA radio station managers interview, endorse and recommend candidates to be admitted. They have guaranteed entry to the CSU Bachelor of Communication (Radio). Once enrolled the students are mentored through the course by their endorsing local SCA radio station.
