More than 370 graduands and guests will gather to celebrate the graduation of 94 students from Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Dubbo on Tuesday 11 December.
The 94 graduands in attendance will join more than 5 700 students graduating from ceremonies on CSU campuses across NSW during the same week.
The ceremony will be held at the Dubbo Regional Theatre and Convention Centre, 155 Darling Street, Dubbo NSW, from 9.30am.
Head of CSU in Dubbo, Dr Beverley Moriarty, said 2012 had been an exciting year for CSU in Dubbo.
"This year we've had the new sport and recreation facilities available for Charles Sturt University students and staff, which has made an enormous difference to campus life," she said.
"Meanwhile, the dental clinic on campus has gone from strength to strength with CSU students undertaking placements there and very positive feedback from the local community.
"Now we're looking forward to celebrating the achievements of nearly 100 students who are preparing to take the education and skills they have acquired through their studies at CSU in Dubbo out into the community.
"We have teachers, nurses, business graduates and social workers all graduating, many of whom will go on to make important contributions to the region."
The graduation ceremony will include 17 Bachelor of Nursing students, all of whom have taken up work in the region.
CSU nursing lecturer, Ms Maryanne Podham, from CSU’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Indigenous Health, said the fact that all graduating nursing students had accepted work offers in the local area underlined the contribution CSU was making to regional health services.
Dubbo Base Hospital deputy director of nursing, Ms Leonie Beashel, said local nursing graduates were a valuable resource for regional health services.
“It’s important to encourage the people you train locally to stay in the area and work in rural and regional services,” she said.
The graduation ceremony will feature an occasional address by Western Plains Zoo General Manager Mr Matthew Fuller.
