New IT boss at CSU

An IT professional with extensive experience in the commercial and financial sectors, both in Australia and internationally, has joined CSU to oversee its information and communication technologies.

An IT professional with extensive experience in the commercial and financial sectors, both in Australia and internationally, has joined Charles Sturt University (CSU) to oversee its information and communication technologies.
 
Mr Brendan McHugh, the new Executive Director of CSU's Division of Information Technology.In announcing the recruitment of Mr Brendan McHugh, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Ken Dillon said, “The new Executive Director of the Division of Information Technology is a key appointment for the University as it continues to strive to further improve quality support for research and learning and teaching through introducing sector-leading enhancements to its services for all students and staff.”
 
Mr McHugh will head a Division which manages $28 million in funds annually, and last year answered 31 000 calls from staff and students to its IT support desk while maintaining 160 terabytes of computer storage.
 
Mr McHugh’s team also oversees 7 500 email accounts, 4 800 phones, 1 200 computer laboratory and public access computers as well as juggling 3 000 video conference room bookings each month.
 
Mr McHugh said, “I'm so excited to join Charles Sturt University and I hope to value-add to the organisation and lead a very customer focussed and skilled team.”
 
Having most recently worked in Sydney as General Manager IT with the Liquor Marketing Group, Mr McHugh has been Chief Information Officer with the Rebel Group and has held managerial roles with the Westpac Group, Corporate Express and David Jones. He has also worked in Canada, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom (UK).
 
Mr McHugh is a Member of the British Computer Society and a Chartered Information Technology Professional. He won a top student award during his postgraduate degree in IT at Salford University in the UK.
 
Following an induction conducted at CSU in Wagga Wagga during the first week of July, Mr McHugh and his family will relocate from Sydney to be based at CSU in Bathurst.
