Less than three months after receiving top honours at the state level, Charles Sturt University (CSU) student Mrs Jill Morris has gone on to be named Vocational Student of the Year at the Australian Training Awards.
Hosted by the federal Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations, the Australian Training Awards are the peak national awards for vocational education and training, recognising innovation and excellence in the training sector.

She completed a Diploma of Community Welfare Work at TAFE NSW Western Institute in 2007 and is in her third year of a Bachelor of Social Work at Charles Sturt University.
The social work student is currently on work placement with the Greater Western Area Health Service. She also combines her studies with family responsibilities and local community work.
Mrs Morris is benefiting from a joint program introduced by CSU and the TAFE NSW Western Institute in 2005. Students enrol at the two institutions and simultaneously undertake social work studies in three courses.
CSU Social Work Course Co-ordinator and Lecturer, Mr Neil Barber has renewed his praise for Mrs Morris and her decision to return to learning armed with a wealth of personal, family and community life experiences.
“What Jill has done and is doing is an inspiration to others who may be considering further study. The latest recognition for her work from the Australian Training Awards is indeed well deserved,” he said.
As part of the award, Mrs Morris will be participating in a roundtable conference on access and disability in education in Adelaide in 2009.
The awards were held in Darwin on 20 November 2008.
To be eligible for the Australian Training Awards, entrants must, among other criteria, have recently completed or be currently enrolled in a vocational education and training course that leads to a nationally recognised outcome or qualification.
Mrs Morris was named in September 2008 as the NSW Vocational Student of the Year at the NSW State Training Awards, hosted by the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET).
