This year’s halfway point has arrived for many university students but that doesn’t mean financial support is no longer on offer, with applications for Charles Sturt University’s mid-year scholarship intake now open.
There is a wide range of mid-year scholarships available for the University’s prospective, commencing and continuing students studying both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The scholarships on offer in this round include options that give one-off payments or funding every year for the duration of the course.
Applications for these scholarships are now open, with many set to close on dates throughout July.
Charles Sturt’s Manager, Scholarships and Equity Funding Ms Melanie Edgar said from merit-based to equity-based scholarships, there’s lots on offer in this mid-year scholarship round.
“Scholarships can make a positive difference to a student’s university experience and can provide some much-needed financial support to help students balance life and study,” she said.
“There are so many scholarships on offer for Charles Sturt University students, and we are not always looking for strong academic achievement; we have diverse selection criteria for our scholarships.
“I encourage all of our students to check our scholarships webpage to see which scholarships they might be eligible for.
“There are currently more than 20 mid-year scholarships on offer and there is only one way you will be considered for one and that is to apply.”
Mr Riley Hodgkinson was awarded the Rennylea - Future in Livestock Scholarship earlier this year to help him while studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology / Bachelor of Veterinary Science.
Originally from Kyabram in Victoria, Mr Hodgkinson had to relocate to Wagga Wagga to pursue his passion of becoming a veterinarian and said the $5,000 scholarship has really helped him to manage the expenses of studying away from home.
“I had seen how much a scholarship changed one of my friend’s university experience and knowing many scholarships go unclaimed annually, so I thought I would give it a shot,” he said.
“I’d like to thank my scholarship sponsors for the generosity and support they have so kindly given to me.
“This support allows me to continue my studies and allows me to stive for the very best as I reach my aspiration of completing my veterinary studies.”
Some of the mid-year scholarships on offer for Charles Sturt students include:
Honours Scholarship HECS Exempt Award – Value $4,000+ HECS-HELP Exemption. A cash scholarship for meritorious students studying Honours courses, plus HECS-HELP exemption for successful Honours Scholarship recipients. Applications close Wednesday 30 June.
Accommodation Equity Grant – Value $2,500 for commencing students and $1,500 for continuing students (one-off payment). The Charles Sturt Accommodation Scholarship is designed to assist commencing and continuing students who are residing in on-campus residences. Applications close on Monday 5 July.
Technology Equity Grant – Value up to $1,000 (one-off payment). This scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible, undergraduate, Commonwealth-supported students to purchase computer equipment. Applications close on Monday 19 July.
Elite Athlete Scholarship – Value $1,250 (one-off payment). The Charles Sturt University Elite Athlete and Performer Scholarship will provide support to elite athletes or performers to meet their training or competition requirements. Applications close on Wednesday 21 July.
Postgraduate Equity Scholarship – Value $2,000 (paid in two equal instalments). Assists students from Equity Groups to study at Charles Sturt University in a Postgraduate (coursework) course. Applications close Wednesday 21 July.
The University also offers a range of scholarships that are open all year round, such as the Professional Placement Equity Grant valued at up to $50 to 100 per week and the Residential School Equity Grant valued at up to $1,000 (one-off payment).
