Prospective agriculture and environmental science students at Charles Sturt University are invited to an online information night to obtain insight into the future of the agriculture industry in a climate-challenged world.

The information night will cover the diverse career opportunities that exist in the agriculture sector, information on agriculture courses available at Charles Sturt and graduate outcomes.

Participants will benefit from the knowledge of guest speakers – AgriFutures Australia Managing Director Mr John Harvey and Charles Sturt PhD student and Head of Agriculture at Barker College Mr Scott Graham.

Mr Harvey will speak about agriculture jobs that are in demand, how agriculture is a meaningful and purposeful career and the types of diverse career paths on offer. Mr Graham will speak about the positive difference agriculture makes to society and the unique careers in urban and rural industries. Charles Sturt University is among the highest-ranking universities for agriculture and environmental science graduates who get jobs, according to the Good Universities Guide 2021/22.

The online information night is a chance for prospective students to hear from current students, academic staff and industry experts about course options and careers in agriculture and environmental sciences.

Course Director and Senior Lecturer in Environmental Management in the Charles Sturt School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences Dr Prue Gonzalez said the University is opening the farm gate to show the exciting prospects available in these industries.

“The future of agriculture and our environment needs our brightest and most innovative minds to embrace the challenges and re-imagine solutions,” she said.

“If you’ve ever wondered if there is a career for you in agricultural or environmental science, we encourage you to come along and learn more about the many diverse, meaningful and satisfying opportunities out there.

“Our Agriculture and Environmental Science Information Night is a fantastic opportunity to hear from a range of guest speakers about their desire to protect, sustain and regenerate our environments – locally, nationally and globally.”

Prospective students will also learn about Charles Sturt campuses and its on-campus agriculture facilities in Wagga Wagga, including the 1,600-hectare farm, herbarium, phytotron plant growth chambers, rhizolysimeter, glasshouses, winery and vineyard.

There will also be information about the environmental science facilities at Albury-Wodonga and Port Macquarie, including 80 hectares of grey water management incorporating water harvesting, run-off management, reed beds and wetlands.

Information on career opportunities, scholarships and support services will be distributed in the online session, which is also open to parents and carers.

The agriculture and environmental sciences online information session will be held on Tuesday 31 May from 6pm to 7.30pm. Registrations are required and spots can be booked online.
