Dr Kate Crowe shares how her biggest aspiration is that her research and work to support multilingual learners who are Deaf and hard of hearing is contributing to a change in the world where being deaf is a difference in ability, not a disability.

This year marks 50 years since the formal start of international efforts to protect the world’s wetlands, and although much has been achieved to conserve wetlands during this time, researchers at Charles Sturt say wetlands are still under threat.

A Charles Sturt alumna, whose business was one of Australia’s first to be certified against some of the highest standards in the world for social and environmental responsibility, has won the University’s Alumnus of the Year – Professional Achievement Award.

“To be truthful I’m still a little overwhelmed to receive the University Medal, but I’m very proud of what it signifies,” said Mr Dale White, a Charles Sturt University information technology (IT) graduate awarded an Undergraduate University Medal.

Social Science graduate was encouraged by her family and lecturers to finish her degree to be an inspiration to her six children.

Analytical skills, work ethic and passion for intelligence well in excess of her years earned a Charles Sturt University graduate a top award from the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers (AIPIO).

A University Medal has been awarded to a Charles Sturt University paramedicine postgraduate from Melbourne who now lives London and works as a Hazardous Area Response Team paramedic with the London Ambulance Service National Health Service Trust.

A Canadian who studied a master’s degree online with Charles Sturt University – all while working with the United Nations to assist managing natural disasters around the world – has been recognised as an outstanding alumnus of the University.
