2026 Sky Stories returns to the Girinyalanha Aboriginal Nature and Bioscience Park at Charles Sturt University in Orange on Friday 25 September.

As with past events, Sky Stories 2026 promises an unforgettable evening where participants can explore the wonders of the night sky and discover the intersection of First Nations traditions and Western science.

Participants will gain a unique perspective through stories of the night sky shared from a Wiradjuri point of view and guided telescope viewing sessions with insights from experienced local amateur astronomers.

Uncle Ricky Ah-See will launch the event with a Welcome to Country, while guests will hear Aboriginal sky stories from First Nations man Ian Sutherland and enjoy live performances of traditional dancing by Uncle Ricky’s Indigenous Dance Troupe.

The Central West Astronomical Society members will assist attendees to view the night sky through multiple telescopes, and share their knowledge of constellations, the Moon, planetary motion and other celestial objects and phenomena.

Throughout the night, participants can relax with a picnic and join in the activities. Bring a picnic rug and settle in for an evening filled with culture, science, and community connection.

Enjoy food and drinks, including a BBQ, bush tucker, and treats from the coffee van. We encourage guests to bring a reusable water bottle and keep cup to use, to help the environment.

Weather permitting, Sky Stories 2026 will be held at Charles Sturt University 346 Leeds Parade Orange from 6pm to 8pm on Friday 25 September.

The event is free but please register. Parking is available in car parks three and nine.
