The push to recruit agricultural workers is targeting a younger audience at a careers fair at Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Wagga Wagga on Wednesday 31 July.

 

For the first time, high school students will attend the annual Agriculture and Animal Industry Careers Fair which brings together prospective employers and more than 100 students from CSU’s School of Agricultural and Wines Sciences and School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences.

 

Students will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from agribusiness, animal science companies, research organisations, recruitment companies and farming groups.

 

Member of the student organising committee and Bachelor of Animal Science student Ms Lucy Watt said it’s a chance to network and get a taste of the diverse career paths in the sector.

 

“The animal and agricultural industries are continuously growing and developing, providing people with a wide range of opportunities to develop their skills,” she said.

 

“This event gives students a greater insight into what’s required to pursue various career paths, which helps when it comes to choosing electives in the senior years of study.”

 

A career development workshop and interactive panel discussion featuring CSU graduates and industry members will also be held.

 

High School students can attend the fair between 2pm and 4pm to meet with industry representatives and find out about studying agriculture and animal science at CSU. Bachelor of Agricultural Science student, Ms Madisan Hodgson is also on the organising committee and has a simple message for school leavers.

 

“If agriculture is what you are interested in, then don't let anyone talk you out of it,” she said. “There are endless opportunities”.
