Winning CSU Merlot to shine at inaugural wine dinner

24 AUGUST 2011

The award winning 2009 CSU Merlot will be one of the highlights of the inaugural Barrel Hall Dinner at the CSU Winery on Saturday 3 September.

The award winning 2009 Charles Sturt University (CSU) Merlot will be one of the highlights of the inaugural Barrel Hall Dinner at the CSU Winery on Saturday 3 September.

The Merlot, sporting a brand new label featuring the letter ‘M’, won the trophy for Best Merlot at the Boutique Wine Awards 2011 in Sydney in July.

“The inaugural Barrel Hall Dinner will be held on the first weekend of Spring, a time of new growth in the vineyards adjacent to the Charles Sturt University Winery in Wagga Wagga,” said CSU Winemaker Mr Andrew Drumm.

He has teamed with CSU Executive Chef Mr Henri Kozlik to design a special menu to match the range of CSU wines for the first Barrel Hall Dinner.

Mr Drumm said, “The atmosphere of the Dinner – along one long dinner table in the Winery’s Barrel Hall - will be memorable. It will be a great place to get the feel of a working winery.”

A Barrel Hall is a temperature-controlled store at wineries that houses the barrels of red, white and fortified wine as they mature from past vintage.

CSU Winery Marketing Manager Mr Justin Byrne said, “Andrew and I will introduce the wines at the Dinner including our award winning 2009 Merlot as well as the wines which Charles Sturt University are well known for, including traditional-method sparkling wines and barrel-matured fortified wines.

“The Barrel Hall Dinner will be the first opportunity for guests to taste the award winning Merlot. We are planning a special evening for those who enjoy good wine and food and for those who want to know more about our wines. ”

The inaugural Barrel Hall Dinner will be held at the CSU Winery, McKeown Drive in Wagga Wagga on Saturday 3 September at 6.30pm for 7pm. Tickets are $85 and bookings can be made by telephoning 02 6933 2435. The ticket includes a return bus trip from the Riverina Playhouse in Cross Street in Wagga Wagga from 6.30pm. The bus will return from the CSU Winery at approximately 11pm.
