Grazing ban in Victorian Alpine National Park

Charles Sturt University has a range of experts who can offer comment on the ban on cattle grazing in the Victorian Alpine National Park announced recently by the Victorian Government. 

Charles Sturt University has a range of experts who can offer comment on the ban on cattle grazing in the Victorian Alpine National Park announced recently by the Victorian Government.

These experts, based in Albury-Wodonga, cover a range of issues and can offer a variety of perspectives on this announcement:

  • Dr Ian Lunt, senior lecturer in vegetation management, CSU School of Environmental and Information Sciences and principal  researcher in CSU’s Institute for Land, Water and Society:
    Dr Lunt has published widely on the effects of grazing and burning on natural environments, particularly in Victoria. He is an expert on managing native grasslands and woodlands in Australia.
  • Dr Rik Thwaites, lecturer and researcher  in ecotourism
    Dr Thwaites is an expert in nature tourism, especially in the relationship between tourism, national parks and communities. He is aware of future tourism potential and alternative economies offered by the changing land use in the Victorian Alps.
  • Professor Nicholas Klomp, Head of CSU school and Program Director in the Institute for Land, Water and Society:
    Professor Klomp can comment extensively on striking the balance between environmental challenges and social and economic imperatives. He is an expert on environmental management.
  • Yalmambirra, lecturer and researcher in cultural management:
    Yalmambirra offers an Indigenous perspective on the Victorian high country, particularly the pre-European use of the area by the local Wiradjuri people and other groups.
