Charles Sturt University and Hume Bank have partnered to launch a new scholarship aimed at supporting survivors of domestic violence in their pursuit of higher education.
Signed in May 2025, the agreement establishes a $5,000 scholarship to assist a Charles Sturt student who has experienced significant impacts from domestic violence.
The scholarship will support the recipient through to 2026, with funds available for use in any way that supports their study and wellbeing.
The recipient was selected following a review of existing scholarship applications, with Charles Sturt identifying an individual whose story reflected resilience and a strong commitment to rebuilding their life through education. To protect their privacy, the student’s identity will remain confidential.
“This scholarship represents more than financial support ̶ it’s a message to survivors that they are not alone,” said Charles Sturt Development Officer, Craig Trethowen.
“At Charles Sturt University, we believe in the power of education to transform lives, and through this partnership with Hume Bank, we’re proud to stand beside those rebuilding their futures with strength and resilience,” he said.
Hume Bank CEO Mr Stephen Capello said, “We are proud to support this initiative and help remove barriers for those affected by domestic violence. It’s about creating opportunity, dignity and hope for those who need those things most.”
Charles Sturt and Hume Bank encourage survivors to explore available resources and opportunities.
