The Managing Director of the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC), Ms Michelle Guthrie will visit Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Wagga Wagga on Friday 11 August to share her views on the challenges facing the public broadcaster and the wider media sector.
Ms Guthrie will deliver the public lecture, The View from the ABC: Innovation and Perspectives of the Media Landscape from 1.30pm to 2.30pm as part of CSU's Explorations Series.
The ABC Managing Director will outline how the media industry faces a unique set of challenges as digital disruption creates an increasingly fragmented market and consumers become empowered more than ever before.
Under Ms Guthrie, the ABC recently announced a new strategy aimed at ensuring it remains relevant to all audiences and has started a conversation with its content makers about ensuring it remains the source of Australian stories and conversations.
Head of Campus at CSU in Wagga Wagga Ms Miriam Dayhew said, "I am delighted to welcome Michelle Guthrie to our regional NSW campus.
"Like Charles Sturt University, the ABC is a valued part of our rural and regional communities.
"The lecture at Charles Sturt University will be an opportunity for our community to hear directly from the ABC Managing Director about the role of the public broadcaster in the digital era."
The lecture is free and open to the public. Register to attend here.
Ms Guthrie joined the ABC as Managing Director in May 2016. She has led the national broadcaster in a new strategic direction with a clear focus on maintaining its relevance and delivering great Australian content in a fast-changing, fragmented and increasingly global media market.
In March 2017, Ms Guthrie announced a major cultural and structural transformation at the ABC to make it better equipped to meet the challenges of the digital era.
