Mr Asimus was appointed CSU’s foundation Chancellor in 1989 when the University was established. He retires from the position later this month.
“David and Jane Asimus have been so much a part of this University for more than a decade. Over the years, tens of thousands of graduates have shaken the hand of the Chancellor at graduation ceremonies both in Australia and overseas”, said Professor David Battersby, the Head of CSU’s Albury-Wodonga Campus.
“It is widely acknowledged that David Asimus has provided exemplary stewardship for the during his time as Chancellor. Not only has he been a fierce advocate for regional and rural Australia, but he has been a strong supporter for regional universities such as CSU,” he said.
Staff and students of CSU’s Albury-Wodonga Campus will farewell David and Jane Asimus at an afternoon tea on Thursday while community representatives will attend a dinner that evening in their honour.
And as a special honour, Professor John Hill, the Director of the Albury-Wodonga Campus of La Trobe University, will also host a function on Thursday to recognise David Asimus’ contribution as CSU Chancellor.
“The Border community is very fortunate to be served by two outstanding universities and their joint celebration of the achievements of David Asimus is a testimony of the influence he has had on higher education in this region,” said Professor Battersby.
