The achievements of 1 100 Charles Sturt University (CSU) graduates will be recognised in six formal ceremonies in Wagga Wagga next week.

The achievements of 1 100 Charles Sturt University (CSU) graduates will be recognised in six formal ceremonies in Wagga Wagga next week.
 
More than 3 000 guests are expected to attend the graduation ceremonies in Joyes Hall, Pine Gully Road, at CSU in Wagga Wagga from Monday 16 December to Wednesday 18 December.
 
Graduation highlights include:
 
9.30am Monday 16 December
Graduates from the Faculty of Science, including the School of Biomedical SciencesSchool of Dentistry and Health Sciences; and School of Environmental Sciences.
  • The Occasional Address will be delivered by Professor Scott Bowman, Vice-Chancellor and President of Central Queensland University.
  • CSU lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics Dr Marissa Olsen from CSU’s School of Dentistry and Health Sciences in Wagga Wagga will be awarded a Doctor of Philosphy forCollaborative Decision Making in Early Career Dietetic Practice in Rural and Regional Settings. 
  • CSU Biomedical Sciences Lecturer Dr Wouter Kalle will introduce his daughter, Ms Emma Kalle, as she is awarded a Bachelor of Medical Science. Read more in CSU Newshere.
  • Ms Belinda Fattore, from Griffith, will receive a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Distinction. Ms Fattore will also receive the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (NSW) Award for General Proficiency in 4th Year Bachelor of Pharmacy. She is one of 53 pharmacy graduates from CSU in Wagga Wagga. Ms Fattore will start her internship in Goulburn in the New Year. 
  • 16 graduates will receive the Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene). Oral health graduate, Mr Rhema Ndukwe, will be awarded The Orthodontics Wagga Wagga Dr Neil Pinto 3rd Year Prize. Mr Ndukwe was one of 13 students who travelled to Cambodia in 2013 to work in oral health clinics for school children. Read more in CSU News here.
168 of the 277 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. More than 480 guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
 
3pm Monday 16 December
  • Wiradjuri Elder Mr Stan Grant, AM, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in recognition of his outstanding contribution to regional Australia in the area of Indigenous education, the preservation of the Wiradjuri language and culture, and to the University.   • The Occasional Address will be delivered by Emeritus Professor Jim Pratley, Research Professor in Agriculture in the University’s School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences
  • One of nine Bachelor of Agricultural Science graduates is Mr Brendan Stacpoole, who will receive the Agricultural Science Medal for his outstanding contribution and commitment to agricultural science He is now working in Parkes in NSW.
  • The Veterinary Science Medal will be presented to Dr Catherine Tuckwell, a graduate of the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours Class 1. Sixty three veterinary science graduates will receive their degrees. Dr Tuckwell is now working in a mixed veterinary practice in Traralgon in Victoria. She excelled in her studies as well as receiving treatment for lymphoma during her double degree. 
  • Bachelor of Nursing Ms Nomagugu Nonsikelelo Ndlovu is the first student to be awarded a full degree after completing the CSU Pathway Program, the University Certificate in General Studies. Read more in CSU News here.
  • Lecturer in Veterinary Pathology with the  School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences at CSU in Wagga Wagga, Dr Andrew Peters will be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy,People, Pigeons and a Parasite: Studies on Columbiformes and Trichomonas. Dr Peters’ research saw him travel to remote villages in PNG. Read more in CSU News here
  • Dr Siong Tan will be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy, Extraction, Characterisation and Functional Studies of Australian Canola Proteins. Dr Tan investigated the possibility of using proteins from canola meal in Australia as ingredients in food for humans.  Read more in CSU News here. 
  • Ms Katherine Brown will be awarded a Master of Viticulture and Oenology. Ms Brown from Brown Brothers in Victoria took part in a CSU study trip to Europe in 2013. Read more in CSU News here.
219 of the 348 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. More than 600 guests are expected to attend the ceremony
 
9.30am Tuesday 17 December
Graduates from the Faculty of Arts, including the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Psychology.
  • The Occasional Address will be delivered by Dr Elizabeth Coombs, NSW Privacy Commissioner.
  • Senior Lecturer in Intelligence and Security Studies with CSU’s Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security Dr Patrick Walsh will be awarded a PhD, Intelligence and Intelligence Analysis: Exploring the State of Intelligence since 9/11. He explored the sweeping reforms within intelligence agencies of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, USA AND United Kingdom since the terrorist attack on New York on September 11, 2001. 
  • Artist and Associate Lecturer in Photography with the School of Communication and Creative Industries Mr Chris Orchard will be awarded a Master of Arts (Honours) for his project Recurrent Narratives: Sublimity, Transcendence and Mourning. His partner Ms Shona Pratt will graduate later in the day (3pm) with a Bachelor of Arts (Photography). It is an exciting time for the Wagga Wagga couple as their baby is due at the end of December.
  • The annual Lila Kirilik Social Action Memorial Prize will be awarded to Bachelor of Social Work graduate Ms Nicola Williams from Sydney. The prize is given in memory of late academic from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ms Lila Kirilik. It is awarded annually to a graduate who has made an outstanding contribution to social justice through their social work placement.

123 of the 313 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. More than 360 guests are expected to attend the ceremony. 

3pm Tuesday 17 December
  • The Occasional Address will be delivered by Mr Chris Fitzpatrick, Chief Executive Officer of Committee 4 Wagga
  •  Father and daughter Michael and Ms Kelli McClintock from Wagga Wagga will graduate during the same ceremony. Mr McClintock will receive a Bachelor of Arts (Television production) and Ms McClintock will receive a Bachelor of Arts (Animation and Visual Effects).  They started their degrees in the same year. 
  • Graduate Mr Jack Walsh will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Television Production). Originally from Cootamundra, Mr Walsh worked on the film Backyard Ashes. Read more in CSU News here. He is one of almost 40 television production graduates.
  • While studying at CSU, fellow television production graduate Mr Ethan Borle filmed The Hustle, a 48-hour race between Wagga Wagga and Bathurst. He is now working in Sydney for Network Ten as a Steadicam Operator for its breakfast program show Wake Up. Read more in CSU News here.

208 of the 417 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. More than 560 guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
 
9.30am Wednesday 18 December
  • The Occasional Address will be delivered by Ms Yasmin King, Small Business Commissioner of NSW. 
  • Master of Business graduates will travel from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, to attend the ceremony at CSU in Wagga Wagga. They will be accompanied by 11 guests. The graduates have studied through CSU at Cambodia’s Economic and Finance Institute.
162 of the 365 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. More than 420 guests are expected to attend the ceremony.
 
3pm Wednesday 18 December
Graduates from the Faculty of Education, including the School of Education and the School of Information Studies.
  • The Occasional Address will be delivered by CSU Professor of Information Studies Lisa Given, from the School of Information Studies.
  • Dr Terry Asla from the USA will be award a PhD, The Fourth Age: Human Information Behaviour and Successful Aging. He studied the role information plays in helping people age successfully. 
  • CSU academic Dr Amanda Davies from the University’s School of Policing Studies will be awarded a PhD, The Impact of Simulation-based Learning Exercises on the Development of Decision-Making Skills and Professional Identity in Operational Policing. Dr Davies explored the use of simulations in police training.
  • Dr Jane Greenlees will be awarded a PhD, Looking Beyond the Answer: The Code-breaking World of Mathematics Assessment. Dr Greenlees is a member of the University’s Research Institute for Professional Practice, Learning and Education (RIPPLE). She examined the changed behaviour and performance of students as they solved a selection of items taken from the NAPLAN.  
217 of the 499 eligible graduates are due to attend this ceremony in Joyes Hall. Nearly 600 guests will be attending the ceremony.
