Charles Sturt University (CSU) will solidify its position as a national institution for education for the professions following the unveiling of a new University Strategy.

The University Strategy 2007-2011, launched by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter after its endorsement by the CSU Council, encompasses a vision of a national university for excellence in education for the professions, strategic and applied research and flexible delivery of learning and teaching.

“CSU’s new University Strategy 2007-2011 defines our future direction and positions CSU to embrace opportunities in today’s open higher education market,” said Professor Goulter.

“The past ten years has seen CSU successfully develop specialities in the professions such as pharmacy, veterinary science, allied health, communications and emergency services with our graduates having strong roles in helping build communities across Australia and internationally."

CSU graduates are among Australia’s most employment ready. Surveys conducted by Graduate Careers Australia indicate that approximately 95 per cent of those students completing bachelor degrees and available for work are in full time or part time employment three months after completing their study at CSU.

“The strategy tightens our focus on what we do well. The University delivers distinctive and quality educational programs on a national basis, including regional Australia and we are the nation’s leader in distance education.”

A truly national institution, the University draws its students from every state and territory in Australia with almost 20 per cent of CSU’s domestic students from outside NSW as well as almost 25 per cent of CSU students coming from overseas.

“The University has established its international profile in applied philosophy and ethics research. We will continue to build on our strong track record in applied research and aim to be research leaders in agriculture, land and water management and the wine and grape industries.

“The University has a strong and recognised heritage. We are in a good and well defined business position and have a clear future as a national institution.”

The five-year corporate strategy has been distributed across the University to staff, to the University Council as well as the Regional Consultative Committees on each of the main campuses.
