Students at
Charles Sturt University (CSU) in Wagga Wagga have taken time out from their
end-of-year exams to present thousands of dollars to a local charity.
Micah House, run by St Vincent de Paul Society, NSW, has received more than $6 000 from the students living at CSU in Wagga Wagga.
At the start of the year, the students named Micah House as the beneficiary of fundraising activities in 2015.
The funds have been raised during the academic year, by hosting numerous events for students, including, 'Tight & Bright', 'Traffic Light Night', 'CSU Stud' and 'Oktoberfest'.
Teacher education student and Head Resident of the CSU residence, Hampden Village Ms Rhiannon Dally said, "Charles Sturt University students are privileged to be able to receive a higher education, so it is great to be able to give back to the Wagga Wagga community by supporting those that are less fortunate.
"Micah House does a wonderful job in our community, and has had been an especially difficult year. The donation by Charles Sturt University students was the largest Micah House had received all year."
Residence Life Manager, Mr Peter Bell said, "Student's usually exist on a limited weekly income, however, they are so generous when it comes to our charitable donations.
"Many areas of Charles Sturt University cooperated to assist the students in their fundraising venture, in particular, Residence Life, Office for Students, and Rivcoll Student Representative Council."
Through its residences, the University's Residence Life provides students with an engaging, responsive experience that creates a lifelong sense of connection and belonging to the community.
Micah House is a major provider of charitable services in the Wagga Wagga area. Located in the city's centre, Micah House assists disadvatanged members of the community through care and support in a non-judgemental, safe environment.
