Charles Sturt University’s Dubbo Campus has been recognised as a growth region for higher education in the latest allocation of additional university places from the Commonwealth Government.

Charles Sturt University’s Dubbo Campus has been recognised as a growth region for higher education in the latest allocation of additional university places from the Commonwealth Government.

The Campus has gained all 80 additional student places granted to CSU under the Government Innovation Action Plan, Backing Australia’s Ability and through a special allocation of regional places.

“We are very pleased with the Commonwealth’s support of the University’s activities at Dubbo,” CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter said on hearing the news.

“This week has seen CSU move into its new innovative Campus, we have announced new courses for Dubbo and now we have gained these additional student places which will significantly increase opportunities for students in the region.”

In making the announcement, Federal Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs, Dr David Kemp said, “The calibre of successful applications showed the universities’ commitment to providing flexible and innovative programs and services to their regional students”.

The allocation gives the Dubbo Campus 60 new student places from 2002, to be used across two double degrees - the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Information Technology and the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Science. On top of this the Campus gained an additional 20 places to be used in other courses.

“Our success in this competitive funding also gives recognition to CSU’s strength in teaching, information technology and science degrees,” Professor Goulter said.

“This is a massive boost to education in Dubbo, particularly when it is understood that these 80 new places each year will translate to an additional 320 students at the Dubbo Campus in four years time.”
