Why is this transfer occurring?
Both the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University (CSU) are committed to providing quality education as widely as possible. The transfer of the Orange Campus - the University of Sydney’s only campus outside greater metropolitan Sydney - to Charles Sturt University, concentrates education resources more efficiently, and allows each institution to concentrate on areas of greatest strength.
When will the transfer of the Orange Campus take place?
1 January 2005
What will happen to existing students?
They will graduate from the University of Sydney, but have the opportunity to complete their course at Orange.
What about prospective students?
In 2005, new undergraduate students will be CSU students. From 1 July 2005 new postgraduate students will be Charles Sturt University students.
What happens to students who applied through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) to study at the University of Sydney Orange Campus in 2005?
Applicants who have applied to study at the Orange Campus are being contacted to notify them of the change. Charles Sturt University will continue to offer pharmacy, nursing and Faculty of Rural Management courses on the Orange Campus.
Applicants who wish to apply for a CSU Orange Campus course in 2005 will need to change their preferences through UAC, using new CSU course codes. These changes need to be logged with UAC before Thursday 6 January 2005. University of Sydney Orange Campus UAC course codes will eventually become invalid preferences. Prospective students who require assistance or further information can call the University of Sydney Helpline on 1300 362 006 or Charles Sturt University on 1300 135 435.
Applicants who applied to study a University of Sydney Orange Campus course that is not being offered by Charles Sturt University in Orange should contact the University of Sydney for advice or contact Charles Sturt University for information on similar courses offered on other CSU campuses.
What will happen to staff on the Orange Campus?
About 100 staff will transfer to CSU from 1 January 2005. The University of Sydney has offered financial assistance to staff who transfer to CSU.
CSU will recruit new staff to meet demand for the additional student places that have been allocated to the Orange Campus for 2005. Recruitment of new staff in pharmacy and nursing has already commenced.
What courses will CSU offer at Orange from 1 January 2005?
From 1 January 2005, CSU will offer the full suite of courses currently available from the Faculty of Rural Management namely:

In July 2004, the Commonwealth allocated an additional 100 new commencing places to CSU at Orange, in addition to a further 240 continuing places. The new places will allow CSU to offer its pharmacy and nursing programs from the Orange Campus in 2005.
What will happen to research on the Orange Campus?
CSU and the University of Sydney are committed to the development of collaborative research opportunities involving the staff at Orange. There is already strong industry support for research at the Orange Campus with enhanced opportunities through involvement with key researchers from CSU.
How will the transfer be executed?
CSU has completed an extensive due diligence process in the lead-up to the transfer of the Orange Campus. This due diligence has examined staffing, infrastructure, information technology and financial issues associated with the transfer of the Campus. It is proposed that the transfer will be formally transacted through legislation in the NSW Parliament and supported by contractual arrangements between the universities.
Will library and IT resources be maintained on the Orange Campus?
Yes. To ensure a smooth transition, CSU’s Executive Director, Division of Library Services, Shirley Oakley and Executive Director, Division of IT, Mike Rebbechi have been involved in the negotiations for the transfer of the Campus. There will be no reduction in the services provided to students at the Orange Campus. They will have access to the library resources at the Campus as well as those resources at CSU’s four other campuses including CSU’s online suite of services to students.
How will CSU manage the Orange Campus from 1 January 2005?
CSU’s Vice-Chancellor and members of the Senior Executive Group at the CSU will work closely with senior staff at the Orange Campus to ensure that the transfer and transitional arrangements for the Campus are closely managed so that there is minimum disruption to staff and students.
