A desire to spend more time with her children and serving the community, at the same time was the impetus for Sydney’s Nicole Collins to leave her ten year career in the Australian Navy, and join the NSW Police.

As a current student mid-way through her recruit education program, the Diploma of Policing Practice, Mrs Collins will be sharing her experiences with people considering joining NSW Police, at the Police Career Day in Randwick this Sunday 7 July.

With two young children at home and a husband also in the Australian Navy, Mrs Collins decided to join NSW Police in order to be able to spend more time at home.

“In addition, there’s a very positive aspect to policing, in the community role it provides. I am still going to be involved with the Australian Navy Reserves,” she said.

The Police Career Day is a joint initiative of the NSW Police and Charles Sturt University (CSU) and enables visitors to find out more about policing as a career and the Diploma of Policing Practice.

Three formal information sessions featuring current students, recent graduates and CSU and Police staff commence at 9.30am, and repeated at 11.30am and 1.30pm. Speakers will explain career options within the NSW Police, health and lifestyle issues and the education program.

The Diploma of Policing Practice, offered by CSU, can be studied either full-time or part-time by distance education, making it accessible to all prospective students.

Applications for the Diploma may be submitted at the Police Career Day, and anyone wishing to apply should bring originals, as well as copies, of documents such as birth certificates, results of prior study and references.

The Police Career Day is being held in the Kensington Room at the University of New South Wales, Randwick (in the Square House, Gate 2 off High Street), on Sunday 7 July, from 9.30am to 4pm.
