Federal government Citation Awards for excellence in learning and teaching have been announced for four Charles Sturt University (CSU) academics.
The Vice-Chancellor and President of CSU, Professor Andrew Vann, welcomed the news and congratulated the CSU staff, saying, “This is a very prestigious recognition of achievement in learning and teaching, and I am proud that we have four staff who have been recognised in this way.”
The Australian Awards for University Teaching Program recognises outstanding contribution to student learning over a sustained period of time, and were announced by Senator the Hon. Chris Evans, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research, on Monday 17 September.
The CSU awardees and their individual citations are:
Dr Noella Mackenzie, lecturer in literacy studies at the School of Education in Albury-Wodonga, for ‘sustained quality in effectively integrating on-campus classes, field experiences and technologies to promote students' understandings and use of contemporary literacies’.
Ms Lucie Zundans-Fraser, lecturer at the School of Teacher Education in Bathurst, for ‘sustained teaching expertise in inclusive education and child development that engages, challenges and inspires student learning’.
Associate Professor Geoff Burrows, associate professor in plant science at the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences in Wagga Wagga, for ‘sustained development of high quality interactive teaching resources that foster the independent learning of key botanical concepts’.
Dr Andrew Wallace, lecturer at the School of Education in Wagga Wagga, for ‘a career marked by research-based, dynamic student-centred learning approaches that promote passion and commitment for history and environmental sustainability amongst student teachers’.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at CSU, Professor Toni Downes, said, “The Citation Awards reflect the University’s commitment to providing quality education to produce graduates in a range of disciplines for careers in rural and regional Australia, and around the world. They acknowledge the recognition, promotion and supported enhancement of learning and teaching at Charles Sturt University.”
The awards to academics located in NSW and the ACT will be presented at a ceremony at the Webster Theatre, University of Sydney, from 3pm to 5pm on Tuesday 25 September.
