In recognition of contributions to Albury-Wodonga and NSW local government, Gordon Craig, OBE will receive an Honorary Doctorate from Charles Sturt University during the University's afternoon Graduation ceremony on Friday 7 May.
As chair of the Albury-Wodonga Development Corporation between 1974 and 1989, Mr Craig presided over much of the significant growth that occurred in and around the twin cities over the past 25 years.
Mr Craig commenced his professional career as an engineer with various local government authorities in Sydney and southern NSW before joining the Federal Department of Urban and Regional Development in 1973.
The following year, he became chair of the Federal Government-funded Albury-Wodonga Development Corporation, which developed vast tracts of rural land surrounding the cities for urban development, including the present site of the University's Thurgoona campus.
Mr Craig will receive his award from the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Cliff Blake, during the ceremony, where he will also deliver the Occasional Address to graduands and staff from the Faculties of Arts and Science & Agriculture. The ceremony, commencing at 2.30 pm, will be held in the Albury Convention and Performing Arts Centre in Swift St, Albury.
