The joint announcement was made at the close of a successful meeting that brought about resolution of the dispute. Students have been protesting over changes in the School of Communication and the resolution marks the mutual recognition of concerns in the University.
As a demonstration of goodwill, members of the University, the Students’ Representative Council and the Out of Order Collective jointly reaffirmed their commitment to working together in achieving quality outcomes for the University – at a time of considerable change in the higher education sector with the Government’s Higher Education Review.
“I am pleased the University, together with the SRC and the Out of Order Collective have been able to achieve a successful outcome to the dispute,” CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter said.
This sentiment was echoed by President of the Bathurst Campus Students’ Representative Council, Ms Jessie Price: “The students have been fighting for the integrity and quality of the School of Communication. Of course the University wants to maintain the quality of its flagship courses - the dispute was about how we were going to do that. The meeting last night was a success in finding a way to do that together.”
The joint agreement will conclude the occupation of the protest sites on the Bathurst Campus, with students agreeing to vacate the sites by the close of Monday 2 September.
