CSU has warmly welcomed news that the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) will be moving its operations to Wagga Wagga, based at CSU.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) has warmly welcomed news that the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC) will be moving its operations to Wagga Wagga, based at CSU.

Professor Mary Kelly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Development and Industry) at CSU said, "We are delighted to hear that RIRDC staff will be moving to Wagga Wagga and basing their operations on campus at Charles Sturt University as part of a tenancy agreement.

"The relocation of RIRDC operations to Wagga Wagga is a significant win for the city and regional New South Wales. It recognises the important role the Riverina region plays in Australia's economic growth, including in innovation, research and development, extension, education and training," Professor Kelly said.

"The Riverina's many agricultural industries, including primary production, food processing and service companies, will also benefit from having RIRDC located close by in Wagga Wagga.

"We look forward to meeting the Board of RIRDC on Tuesday 10 May 2016, showing them around the campus and introducing them to key members of our local community."

RIRDC's operations will be transferred from Canberra to Wagga Wagga in phases, with completion expected by 1 July 2017. The decision to relocate the agency reflects the Australian Government's preference to increase research and development investment in regional Australia.

Media Note:

Professor Kelly is available for interviews in Wagga Wagga on Tuesday 10 May 2016 and by telephone at other times. Please contact CSU Media for more information.
