Rotary Club of Dubbo South President Jeff Chopping said the increased educational opportunities offered to Dubbo and its region by the new Campus, which will be officially opened on Wednesday 17 October, was the reason behind the club’s support.
Its decision to commit $125 000 over five years to the Campus was in keeping with Rotary’s motto: “mankind is our business”.
“We believe access to higher education in Dubbo is very beneficial to all the community and so the decision to make this donation to the University had the complete support of the whole club of Dubbo South,” Mr Chopping said.
Head of the Dubbo Campus, Dr Peter Hodgson, said the donation would enable new student residential accommodation to be constructed on the Campus.
“The construction of student accommodation on the new Dubbo Campus is a major commitment by CSU to its region and the communities it serves. This support from the Rotary Club of Dubbo South will enable the University to provide students from the region surrounding Dubbo with new opportunities for university study.
“On behalf of the University I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Dubbo South for their commitment and confidence in the University and its students,” Dr Hodgson said.
The majority of funds have been raised from the club’s two major fundraising efforts, the Destination Outback 4-wheel drive tour and Country Concert, which are held in alternate years. This year, the Country Concert is being held on Saturday 20 October at Apex Oval.
Members of the public are invited to tour CSU’s new Dubbo Campus in Yarrandale Road, during its community open day this Saturday 13 October. The open day is being held between 10am and 3pm. Course information, building tours, entertainment and food stalls will be available.
