Fostering cultural development, economic growth, and research and training opportunities is behind a new agreement between Charles Sturt University (CSU), TAFE NSW Riverina Institute (RI) and Wagga Wagga City Council.

CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Vann, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Director Ms Kerry Penton and Wagga Wagga Mayor Councillor Kerry Pascoe sign the MoU.A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by the three parties at 12.30pm on Friday 24 August to promote greater cooperation between the organisations.

The MoU aims to enhance Wagga Wagga’s reputation as a place for sustainable business, balanced living and as a leader in education, training and research in regional Australia.

It paves the way for the development of training agreements between CSU, RI and local industry along with promoting cooperation to support the training needs of the business community.

Promoting the use of new technologies within the region and collaborative arrangements to support economic development are highlighted in the agreement.

While CSU and RI have had separate MoUs with Wagga Wagga City Council in the past, this is the first agreement incorporating all three organisations.

CSU Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Andrew Vann said the MoU will benefit the signatories, Wagga Wagga and the wider region.

“We have identified areas of common interest where we can support each other and focus for the benefit of our community,” Professor Vann said.

“Riverina Institute is pleased to be a signatory to this MOU as it signifies the growth in the relationship and commitment of the partner organisations to the ongoing growth and development of the City of Wagga Wagga,” said TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Director Ms Kerry Penton.

Mayor of Wagga Wagga Councillor Kerry Pascoe said, “The MoU builds on previous collaborative efforts the organisations have undertaken to ensure the sustainable economic, environmental, cultural and social development of the city and the broader region.”

General Manager of Wagga Wagga City Council Mr Phil Pinyon said, “The MoU will formalise the commitment of Wagga Wagga City Council, Charles Sturt University and the Riverina Institute to actively cooperate to enhance both the city and its educational facilities and assist each other to meet mutually beneficial strategic objectives.”

The MoU was signed at 12.30pm on Friday 24 August at the Civic Centre, Baylis Street, Wagga Wagga by Professor Vann, the city’s Mayor Councillor Kerry Pascoe, and TAFE NSW Riverina Institute Director Ms Kerry Penton.
