Professor Jo-Anne ReidTwo academics at Charles Sturt University (CSU) will have distinctive roles at the Australian Association For Research In Education (AARE) 2009 International Education Research Conference  in Canberra from Sunday 29 November to Thursday 3 December.

Professor Jo-Anne Reid, Professor of Education and Associate-Dean Teacher Education of the CSU Faculty of Education, was elected President of the AARE at its conference last year. Professor Reid will welcome the anticipated 600 conference participants and will lead the Presidential Address with invited past-Presidents.

Professor Bill Green, Professor of Education in the CSU School of Teacher Education in Bathurst and Strategic Research Professor in the CSU Research Institute for Professional Practice, Learning and Education (RIPPLE) has been invited to deliver the 2009 AARE Radford Lecture. Since 1978 the Executive Committee of the AARE has invited a distinguished scholar in an area relevant to education research to deliver this memorial lecture, in honour of distinguished educationist Dr William (Bill) Radford, at the annual AARE conference.

The Dean of the Faculty of Education at CSU, Professor Toni Downes, said the leading roles of the two CSU academics at the conference is a tribute to their individual commitment to the field of education, and a reflection of the high esteem their colleagues have for them and their work.

“Both Professor Reid and Professor Green have made significant and ongoing contributions to education in Australia, and their work within Charles Sturt University has helped to ensure that the University is a leader in education, nationally and internationally. I congratulate them both for this well-deserved acknowledgement by their professional peers at this important forum,” Professor Downes said.

Professor Bill GreenProfessor Green said it was an honour to be invited to deliver the 2009 Radford Lecture.

“I think the sheer complexity of the work of education is grossly underestimated,” Professor Green said. “We need to find richer ways of thinking about education, in all its forms. I hope my presentation will challenge people, as well as opening up the conversation.”

Another CSU education academic, Professor Stephen Kemmis, from the CSU School of Education in Wagga Wagga, delivered the AARE Radford Lecture in 2000.
