Charles Sturt University (CSU) is expecting to enrol a record 33 200 domestic students for 2013, and more than 39 000 students in total, as it prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary next year.

More than 6 000 prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students have already applied to study online with CSU for the first session of 2014, and applications for Commonwealth Supported places are up almost 10 per cent.

CSU Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Garry Marchant said the University’s online learning program was based on its experience in distance education over the past quarter century.

“In that time, Charles Sturt University has grown to become the leading provider of online education, and the largest regional university, in the country,” Professor Marchant said.

“Our dedication to ensuring students are supported and encouraged in their online learning, and our commitment to providing our students with real skills that employers want, has given us Australia’s best graduate employment rate.

“That’s why we’ve been able to help so many students change their careers, and their lives, through online and on campus education; because people know that Charles Sturt University works.”

CSU has already received more than 3 200 applications for online undergraduate, and more than 1 700 applications for online postgraduate, Commonwealth Supported places in 2014.

Professor Marchant said it was encouraging to see so many people choosing to take the next step in their education or career with CSU.

“Education, and the way students chose to study, are changing fast,” he said.

“But our commitment to supporting the individual hasn’t changed.

“We’re not only interested in the best students, we’re interested in helping our students be the best they can be.

“We are a regional university, and we take a collaborative approach.

“We work with our communities, and with our students, to achieve better outcomes than we could achieve alone. That’s the approach we take to learning and teaching, and I believe it’s why prospective students are choosing to study with Charles Sturt University.”
