At Charles Sturt University, "seeing double" is becoming more prevalent with the announcement this week of eight new double degree courses to be offered next year across the University.

In recognition of the growing trend towards double degrees, the new courses incorporate teaching or information technology degrees with such diverse degree courses as psychology, sports and recreation and ecotourism. (See full list below)

CSU's Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Development), Bernie O'Donnell, said the University was committed to offering courses that reflect the growing demand in Australia for professionals skilled in a number of areas.

"By offering the chance to obtain two degrees, students will be able to have two qualifications in distinct but related fields, making them vastly more employable," Mr O'Donnell said.

"For example, in almost every field of endeavour people are expected to have a high level of computer knowledge. The CSU double degrees, that combine an information technology qualification with a range of other specialisations, provide a level of expertise for which employment demand far exceeds the pool of qualified people. "The double degrees will ensure that CSU graduates remain highly competitive in employment markets in Australia and overseas."

CSU will also offer two new single degrees: in podiatry at the Albury-Wodonga Campus and in games technology at Bathurst.

"These niche courses will be professionally recognised courses in the specialised fields of podiatry and computer games development, offering important career alternatives for people living in regional and metropolitan Australia," Mr O'Donnell said.
