An Indigenous football team, the Murrumbidgee Crows from Wagga Wagga is flying high after reaching the semi-finals of the recent NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout.

It’s the first time in more than 10 years that Wagga Wagga has fielded a side in the competition.
Murrumbidgee Crows chairperson Mr Greg Packer said it’s one of the largest Indigenous sporting events in the country with over 60 teams competing in the men’s division.
“Taking part in this competition meant a lot for the local Aboriginal community and it would not have been possible without sponsorship from Charles Sturt University,” he said. “The team’s performance exceeded all expectations and we couldn’t be more proud.”
Director of the Division of Marketing at CSU, Ms Sarah Ansell, congratulated the team on its achievement and said, “Charles Sturt University is pleased to be able to financially support the side, enabling local representation in the state-wide Aboriginal Rugby League competition for the first time in many years. The University is committed to the success of our communities in all aspects of life, and is delighted to have been a part of this event.”
The team won four round games, earning a place in the semi-finals against the Newcastle Yowies.
The Crows lost 32 to 22 against the more experienced Newcastle team, which went on to claim the title.
Captain-coach Mr Jay Little said, "The team showed passion and commitment to win and played for each other. We are really looking forward to taking part again next year and bringing the title home to Wagga Wagga."
