Charles Sturt University’s (CSU) Professor of Library and Information Management has been awarded a top industry accolade for his outstanding contribution to international teaching and research in library science.
The Library & Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa (LIANZA) will present a Letter of Recognition to Professor Ross Harvey to celebrate his outstanding contribution to research and library education during his career in New Zealand and Australia.
According to LIANZA, Professor Harvey is one of the most distinguished library academics that New Zealand has produced. “His work as a teacher, researcher, writer and speaker has benefited not just libraries and librarians in New Zealand, but is internationally recognised and valued,” says the LIANZA citation.
Currently Professor of Library and Information Management with CSU’s School of Information Studies, Professor Harvey has also held posts at the New Zealand Library School, Monash University and Curtin University of Technology in Australia, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and with the University of California, USA.
Professor Harvey has a wide range of academic interest, from the preservation of library and archival materials in print and digital formats to the history of print culture and the history of music printing and publishing.
The Professor’s most notable work is his book Preservation for Australian and New Zealand Libraries, published in 1993. He has contributed to the literature regarding library education, e-learning and professional development for librarians and has been editor of many library related journals.
Head of CSU’s School of Information Studies, Associate Professor Ken Dillon praised Professor Harvey for his contribution to education for library and information management.
“Ross Harvey is well known among researchers and practitioners in library and information management. He enjoys a fine reputation for his research and is ’well connected’ in the research community,” Associate Professor Dillon said.
“The University looks forward to further research leadership from Professor Harvey as the School of Information Studies seeks to forge formal research links with key national and international information organisations.”
The CSU School of Information is the largest educator of librarians and information managers in Australia, with over 1 400 undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in 2005.
