A comedy that debuted to sold-out audiences at the Charles Sturt University (CSU) 2014 Sprung Festival of Creativity in Bathurst will have a season at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Locked Out is a farce produced by Fresh Antics, a new theatre company of recent graduates from the theatre/media course at the CSU School of Communication and Creative Industries in Bathurst.
Performers and co-writers Ms Jessica Pantano and Ms Nicola McMurdo, and production and stage manager Ms Michelle Sverdloff, were brought together through their love of comedy and collaborative theatre-making. For the production of Locked Out at the Adelaide Fringe they are joined by guest director and mentor Mr Drew Fairley.
Locked Out is set in a rehabilitation clinic in the late 1990s. It tells the story of two eccentric women trapped in the basement of the rehab during a visit from the Prime Minister on a publicity tour. The comedy was awarded the 2014 CSU Blair Milan Tour Prize for graduating theatre/media students to further develop their show for touring.
Production manager and stage manager Ms Michelle Sverdloff said, "We could not be more grateful for the opportunities that the Blair Milan Tour Fund has opened up for us. It has enabled us to bring the work to Adelaide to perform at this outstanding international festival. This experience is the perfect kick-start to our careers as young theatre makers and performers, and we are very proud to be representing Blair's name and legacy."
Following rehearsals in Sydney with established comedy director Drew Fairley, Locked Out will be performed at the Ancient World Bar on Hindley Street, Adelaide, every night at 8pm from Monday 23 to Saturday 28 February. Tickets are $13 and can be purchased from Fringetix (Locked Out) as part of the Adelaide Fringe which runs from Friday 13 February to Sunday 15 March.
Mr Blair Milan (1981-2011) was a talented graduate of the theatre/media course at the CSU School of Communication and Creative Industries in Bathurst who died of acute myeloid leukaemia. He graduated from CSU with a Bachelor of Communication (Theatre/Media) with distinction in 2003. His mother, TV personality Ms Lyndey Milan, established the Blair Milan Travel Prize at CSU because Mr Milan was a talented actor who was loved by many and brought a passion to everything he did. The $7 000 Blair Milan Travel Prize was established to ensure his legacy lives on, and provides a wonderful opportunity for CSU theatre/media graduates to showcase their talents to a wider audience. It is awarded each year to graduating third-year students for the most outstanding work in the CSU theatre/media course.
