Charles Sturt University (CSU) academics have welcomed news that a journalism alumnus has been appointed as editor of the online news service The Guardian US.
The head of CSU's School of Communication and Creative Industries, Associate Professor Chika Anyanwu, applauded the appointment of former CSU student Ms Lee Glendinning (pictured) to the leadership role of the US publication.
"Ms Glendinning's appointment is wonderful news and demonstrates that our graduates have the potential to reach the top of the profession," Professor Anyanwu said.
"As I have observed previously, the School has a very strong reputation for producing not only job-ready graduates but leaders in their respective disciplines. Our journalism degree has provided journalists and editors for newsrooms around Australia and around the world."
CSU journalism lecturer Ms Kay Nankervis said, "Lee Glendinning is yet another example of a Charles Sturt University graduate leading a globally-recognised media organisation. We are proud that our alumni from previous decades are so well represented at national and international levels of journalism excellence."
Other CSU journalism alumni in leading and senior roles with media organisations include Mr Angelos Frangopoulos, the CEO of Sky News Australia, and Mr Hamish Macdonald, a London-based international affairs correspondent with the American Broadcasting Company who has been awarded a 2016 Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University.
The CSU Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) develops students' skills in the gathering, handling and dissemination of information for the mass media and other organisations involved in professional communication in the areas of print, broadcast and online journalism. It is designed and taught to produce industry-ready graduates who are able to respond to the rapidly changing media environment.
