Prospective university students seeking courses that lead to well-paid jobs should attend one of the five Open Days being held across Charles Sturt campuses during July and August.
The University will host dedicated on-campus Open Days at Charles Sturt in Wagga Wagga, Port Macquarie, Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst and Orange, showcasing key facilities and courses, along with conducting information sessions and additional activities to give potential students a taste of life at Charles Sturt.
Charles Sturt Associate Director, Future Student Engagement and University Events, Ms Lorraine Ryan, said the University has gone above and beyond with this year’s Open Day program.
“In addition to our comprehensive sessions and tours which give prospective students an insight on courses, we are also offering information sessions on enabling courses which upskill students to be ready for university education,” Ms Ryan said.
“With many of our students coming to us after time in the workforce, these enabling courses bridge the gap during that transition so students are more prepared for the tasks required to commence and succeed in their chosen course.”
Ms Ryan said there would also be a range of industry and community organisations present at each Open Day, providing prospective students with connections to possible future employers and local support services.
“Our hands-on degrees benefit greatly from Charles Sturt’s partnerships with major employers such as IBM Australia, Transgrid, Teach NSW, Marathon Health and community groups such as KU Children’s Services,” she said.
“Having these organisations present at our Open Days allows potential students to connect with possible future employers and also learn about support services in their local area which are available to help them through their university degree.”
Open Days will be held at Charles Sturt campuses on the following dates and times:
- Wagga Wagga, Sunday 28 July, 10am - 2.30pm
- Port Macquarie, Sunday 4 August, 10am - 2.30pm
- Albury-Wodonga, Sunday 11 August, 10am - 1.30pm
- Bathurst, Sunday 18 August, 10am - 2.30pm
- Orange, Sunday 25 August, 10am - 1pm
Each Open Day would also be highly informative with respect to the University’s early entry program – Charles Sturt Advantage (CSA).
CSA is a pathway into university for Year 12 students to receive offers before completion of their HSC exams. The program’s selection criteria are based on each student’s Year 11 school results and soft skills that are vital in the workforce, such as motivation, empathy, and resilience.
Ms Ryan said the CSA program continues to rise in popularity as a pathway into university.
“Representatives from the Charles Sturt Advantage program will offer guidance for school leavers who plan to apply for an early offer to study with us in 2025 through the CSA program, and for others who would like to know about how the program works,” she said.
“Last year, we made more than 5,000 early entry offers for students to study with us, and this year, we have already received more than 1,325 applications.”
2025 CSA applications close on Saturday 31 August.
Ms Ryan said Open Days would also be useful for prospective online students, who should register and attend to learn more about studying with Australia’s most experienced online university.
“From short courses to full bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Charles Sturt University has diverse offerings including 100 per cent online courses to get you where you want to go,” Ms Ryan said.
Representatives from the scholarships and financial support team will be present to assist attendees understand the potential scholarship opportunities the university has to offer.
“Supporting our students is at the heart of what we do, and attending an Open Day is a perfect opportunity to find out more about the support available, which includes over $10 million in scholarships and grants,” she said.
Scholarships open from early September 2024 and close on different dates throughout December, January and February depending on each scholarship. View the current range of scholarships here.
Attendees can also seek guidance on Charles Sturt study-abroad programs with representatives available from the Office of Global Engagement and Partnerships and First Nations support services such as the University’s First Nations Student Centres and First Nations Student Connect.
Attendees are encouraged to register in advance, online for the sessions and tours they would like to attend through the Charles Sturt website here.
