Science education will take centre stage when Australia's Chief Scientist, Professor Ian Chubb AC addresses Charles Sturt University (CSU) academics on Thursday 12 February.

Professor Chubb is a key-note speaker at a Learning and Teaching Retreat for academics from CSU's Faculty of Science, being held in Wagga Wagga on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 February.

"I'm pleased to support the professional development of CSU's academic staff in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By discussing how we can teach STEM as it is practiced, we identify ways to inspire staff and students," Professor Chubb said

"I think continually developing yourself is an important part of academic life."

CSU Executive Dean of Science Professor Tim Wess said staff from all CSU campuses will come together for the event.

"Over two days leading science educators, like Professor Chubb, will share their knowledge and inspire Charles Sturt University staff to take teaching to the next level," he said.

"In a rapidly changing educational environment it's important for staff to come together to build relationships and share ideas.

"The University is committed to achieving excellence in education for the professions and to maintaining national leadership in flexible and distance education."

Professor Chubb was appointed Chief Scientist in 2011 and has an extensive background in higher education, including serving as Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University and Flinders University.
