
CSU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Garry Marchant, said, “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Tim Wess as Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science.
“Professor Wess has held a number of leadership positions and comes to us from Cardiff University in Wales, where he is the Head of the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, and a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of Estates. He joined Cardiff University in 2003 as a research professor working on biomaterials, and has published over 100 papers in peer review journals.
“Scientific appointments Professor Wess has held include Chair of the UK’s Physics and Life Sciences Committee for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and he was also a member of the STFC Science Board. He is a member of the council for the University of Wales, has acted as an advisor to the Lithuanian and Slovenian science ministries, and is the chair of the Scientific Advisor Committee for IPANEMA, the European research platform devoted to the study of ancient materials, including collagen-based materials such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Domesday Book. Professor Wess was also former Chair of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage Committee for the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.”
Professor Wess completed his undergraduate study in biochemistry at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and his PhD studies in biophysics at the University of Edinburgh. He maintains an active interest in research.
He and his family will relocate to CSU in Wagga Wagga, and he will take up his position on Monday 13 May.
The CSU Faculty of Science has over 500 staff and more than 9 000 students across its seven Schools - the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences; the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences; the School of Biomedical Sciences; the School of Community Health; the School of Dentistry and Health Sciences; the School of Environmental Sciences; and the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Indigenous Health.
