Charles Sturt University (CSU) is planning a $3.8 million development to expand child care services for staff, students and the community in Wagga Wagga.

An Artist’s impression of the proposed new child care centre at CSU Wagga WagThe University has lodged a development application with Wagga Wagga City Council to build a new child care centre to cater for 76 children.

The CSU Riverina Children’s Centre currently offers 38 places and is open 48 weeks of the year.

CSU Head of Campus in Wagga Wagga, Mr Adrian Lindner said the proposed development is for a larger centre that will allow for more places to meet the growing need for child care services.

“The project has been submitted to Wagga Wagga City Council for development approval with an expectation that construction can begin in late February,” he said. “It’s hoped the centre will be completed later this year and be fully operational in 12 months time.”

The building will be constructed on a prominent new site on Nathan Cobb Drive in the centre of the campus.

As part of CSU’s commitment to reduce its environmental footprint, the building has been designed to meet a 5 star rating through the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Green Star system.

Design features of the north facing, energy efficient buildings include using glass for natural warmth in the winter, rain water collection and solar hot water systems.
