The Charles Sturt University (CSU) Future Moves program will present interactive workshops at Young North Public School on Thursday 27 June to encourage students to explore opportunities that come from higher education.

Year 5 and 6 students will participate in a selection of workshops that introduce the university experience and available courses, with the aim to increase students' aspirations for higher education and associated careers.

The workshops are part of CSU's Future Moves program, which was developed to encourage students in rural and remote NSW and Victoria to gain a university education. The program is directed at students who may have limited experience of higher education and may think university is beyond their reach.

Ms Ravnita Sharma, program coordinator for the CSU Future Moves program in Wagga Wagga, said, "By introducing young people to the world of university, course options, and the varied pathways available to them, we're hoping to boost their confidence in considering tertiary study as a realistic option.

"Students' ideas about themselves are shaped through early experiences and by the time they reach high school many have formed strong ideas about where they may want to be in the world of work.

"These workshops assist students to identify and overcome real or perceived barriers to tertiary education by linking to their interests and strengths, and identifying appropriate pathways to expand their opportunities through university."

"University students also participate as volunteer Future Moves leaders, providing school students with a direct link to real-life experiences, the challenges faced, and benefits gained from extending their education."This developmentally appropriate program aligns with the school curriculum and the Australian Blueprint for Career Development, and is based on successful learning frameworks in Australia and internationally.

Future Moves is a federally-funded initiative, run through Charles Sturt University and aligned with the Australian Blueprint for Career Development.
