- Four Riverina poets to present their work via ZOOM on Thursday 14 May
The Booranga Writers’ Centre in Wagga Wagga is pleased to present its first exclusively online poetry reading via a ZOOM meeting at 8pm on Thursday 14 May.
The event will feature four local regional poets – Jo Cochrane, Lachlan Brown, Sarah Tiffen and Derek Motion – reading selections of their work, plus an open mic section at the end.
Director of the Booranga Writers’ Centre Ms Kathryn Halliwell said, “It has been a real challenge for everyone to cope with isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While writers do spend most of their time working alone, they really depend on meeting and sharing work to keep themselves motivated, to feel like they are part of a community.
“Wagga Wagga has had a groundswell of live poetry activity in recent years, with regular Booranga poetry events as well as the monthly Raw Roar poetry slam, and more recently poetry readings at Rabbit Books.
“All of these events have had to go into hiatus and as an organisation servicing regional writers, we are seeking to give a platform to local writers, and to keep some momentum going during these difficult times.”
Booranga’s ZOOM Poetry is at 8pm on Thursday 14 May, and guests can access the free event online at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83122696307
Booranga Writers’ Centre is supported by the NSW Government (through Create NSW), Wagga City Council, and Charles Sturt University.
The Centre connects writers across the Riverina and provides professional development, networks and resources for readers and writers in Wagga Wagga and the Riverina Region.
