Charles Sturt University is a major foundation sponsor of a leadership program that develops Wagga Wagga high school students into positive and successful ambassadors for the city.

The Committee 4 Wagga started the School Leaders Program in 2016 and the University is again sponsoring the program and hosting the first session and launch event in the Biomedical Science building on Tuesday 25 February.

Over the course of the program, students will attend six single-day sessions and an evening session to participate in workshops, lectures, excursions, physical activities, and mentoring sessions to develop their leadership capacity.

Through mental and physical activities, students will be able to analyse their strengths and areas for improvement, set personal and vocational goals, and develop self-awareness and confidence.

Charles Sturt Director of External Engagement in Wagga Wagga and Albury-Wodonga Ms Samantha Beresford said the University was proud to support the program.

“Charles Sturt University is committed to furthering the education and opportunities of people in our communities,” she said.

“These students could be future leaders in our communities and the University is committed to supporting the growth of the youth in our regions through such a fabulous program.”

“This program is another example of Charles Sturt University partnering with local organisations to develop and support outstanding rural and regional future leadership.”

CEO of Committee 4 Wagga Mr Alan Johnston said that it has been fundamental to the ongoing success of the program to have the support of Charles Sturt and have the University facilities as a resource to enhance the students’ learning experience since the inception of the program.

“The Committee 4 Wagga recognises the importance of community leaders taking responsibility for the development of our city’s future leaders,” he said.

“We are extremely thankful to the sponsors and supporters involved, and for Charles Sturt University and C4W.

“It is an excellent opportunity to showcase the collaboration between the University and the business community in delivering benefits for the community.”

The official launch will be held on Tuesday 25 February at 10.20am at the Biomedical Science building (building 288). Students will graduate from the program in June 2020.
