Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie is offering members of the public the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the world of undergraduate paramedicine.

The University is hosting a free on-campus event on Tuesday 10 March that will include a tour of the paramedicine teaching facilities, live demonstrations from paramedicine students, and the opportunity to pose questions to the University’s paramedicine teaching staff.

Sam WillisSenior Lecturer in Paramedicine in the School of Biomedical Sciences Mr Sam Willis (pictured), who is the lead organiser of the event, encourages anyone with an interest in paramedicine to attend.

“This is a great opportunity for current and future students or members of the public to come and network and see what paramedicine is all about,” Mr Willis said.

“The theme of the ‘Human Elements of Paramedicine’ event will resonate with many existing professions in the community, and will explore how paramedics interact with their environment and the human factors that affect their work.

“Given the high-stakes nature associated with paramedic care, human factors such as how paramedics communicate, how they forward plan, or how they implement safety processes when delivering care, to name a few, are more important than ever before.

“I hope this event will provide attendees with a unique and interesting way to learn more about those human factors which make paramedicine such a worthwhile and truly selfless career path.”

During the event Mr Willis will also be launching the second edition of his recently published co-authored book, ‘Fundamentals of Paramedic Practice: A Systems Approach’, and he is giving attendees the chance to win a signed copy of the book.

“This event is not only a learning and networking opportunity, but it is a celebration of the publication of the second edition of my co-authored book,” he said.

“I look forward to sharing this book with everyone on the night and answering any questions people have about the book or the world of paramedicine.”

‘The Human Elements of Paramedicine: Behind the Scenes at Charles Sturt University’ event is on Tuesday 10 March from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at the Paramedic Teaching Lab (level three) at the Port Macquarie campus.

Registrations for the event are available on the Eventbrite website.
