Support on offer for future regional doctors and dentists

This $10,000 scholarship, funded by Westfund, is aimed at helping the next generation of regional doctors and dentists.

Charles Sturt University is helping the next generation of regional doctors and dentists achieve their career goals through a scholarship funded by Westfund.

The Westfund Healthy Futures Scholarship is available to commencing or continuing students at Charles Sturt’s regional campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie or Wagga Wagga.

Students must be studying either a Bachelor of Dental Science or Doctor of Medicine in any year to be eligible for consideration. The scholarship is valued at $10,000, to be paid in two $5,000 instalments over one year.

Charles Sturt Foundation Chief Executive Officer Ms Sarah Ansell said this contribution to the University ensures the longevity of regional communities.

“This is an important and generous scholarship that supports our students and contributes to the healthy future of our regional communities,” she said.

“Westfund’s decision to make the scholarship available across all campuses demonstrates an important commitment to both education and regional Australia”.

Westfund Chief Health Care Services Officer (CHCSO) Ms Liz Casmiri was delighted to partner with Charles Sturt on this scholarship.

Westfund is a non-profit organisation investing in communities by expanding access to affordable healthcare for members. The scholarship aims to support regional students to become doctors and dentists to help secure the future of these professions.

Continuing students must have a GPA or 4.0 or higher and commencing students need to have an ATAR of 70 or higher.

Applicants must be based in a regional area with a view to working regionally after graduation.

Students must demonstrate their commitment to their discipline with a 500-word answer to the following: ‘I am interested in providing healthcare to regional people because …”

Applications for the Westfund Healthy Futures Scholarship close at 9am on Monday 5 February for continuing and commencing students.
