Charles Sturt University has welcomed the announcement today of the Federal Government’s $4.4 million funding boost for the new Veterinary Science program.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) has welcomed the announcement today of the Federal Government’s $4.4 million funding boost for the new Veterinary Science program.

The Federal Member for Riverina Kay Hull today outlined that $2.4 million has been allocated to teaching and learning facilities in 2008 and a further $2 million in 2009.

“The funding is great news for the University and regional and rural Australia where our veterinary science graduates will work to meet the shortfall of skilled professionals,” said CSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Goulter.

“The University has a staunch advocate in Kay Hull and she has been strongly behind the development of the Veterinary Science program as CSU.

“This is highlighted by her support in securing these latest funds through the Commonwealth’s Higher Education Capital Development Pool program.”

“The inclusion of Veterinary Science in our course profile in 2005 clearly demonstrates our vision of CSU as a national university committed to excellence in education and research,” said Professor Goulter.

“We aim to provide distinctive educational and research programs to enhance and contribute to our communities such as rural and regional Australia,” he added.

The funds will go towards the costs of constructing a pre-clinical centre, clinical teaching centre, research laboratories, staff and postgraduate offices and additional teaching space on the University’s Wagga Wagga Campus.

CSU is the first regional university in Australia to train veterinary science students with the first intake of 45 students successfully completing the inaugural year of studies.
