A winning sparkle for CSU wine

The CSU Winery is again celebrating after its sparkling wine was named a winner at one of Australia’s largest wine shows.

The Charles Sturt University (CSU) Winery is again celebrating after its sparkling wine was named a winner at one of Australia’s largest wine shows.

At the Cowra Wine Show in central west NSW, the 2007 Limited Release Pinot Noir - Chardonnay won the Mulyan Trophy for the Best Bottle Fermented Sparkling Wine of Show.

CSU Winemaker Mr Andrew Drumm said, “The sparkling wine is made using the traditional method, in which all the steps are carried out by hand”.

“The award is particularly pleasing for the next generation of winemakers as wine science students at Charles Sturt University were employed to work on the bottling and disgorging lines.”

Mr Drumm will be presented the Mulyan Trophy during a ceremony in the Cowra Civic Centre from 7.30pm on Saturday 14 August. Judging at the Cowra Wine Show was held from Monday 26 July to Thursday 29 July.

“The grapes were drawn from vineyards in the Orange district and then brought to Wagga Wagga where the wine was made at the Charles Sturt University Winery,” Mr Drumm said.

“The winning wine spent three years on yeast lees, and this extended lees contact has added some complexity and depth to the palate.”

The trophy for the 2007 Limited Release Pinot Noir – Chardonnay comes after the CSU Winery took out the Wineries, Distilleries and Boutique Breweries Award at the 2010 Inland Tourism Award on Saturday 24 July.

The 2007 Limited Release Pinot Noir – Chardonnay is available for sale at the Cellar Door at the CSU Winery in Wagga Wagga. Read more here.
