On 25 October Charles Sturt University (CSU) welcomed the opening of the Syngenta Seedcare Institute at the University’s AgriPark in Wagga Wagga.
CSU Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Development and Industry) Professor Heather Cavanagh said the opening of the 14th Syngenta Seedcare Institute was confirmation of the strength of the agricultural industry in the Riverina and would provide for collaboration between the industry and tertiary sector.
“The Seedcare Institute Centre is a global operation and renowned for sharing knowledge and research,” Professor Cavanagh said.
“We are excited about the opportunities it will provide our students and the grains industry.
“The institute will give our students the opportunity to partner with a leader in the development of Seedcare formulas that provide crop protection against problem pests and diseases.”
Anja Pires, Global Head of the Seedcare Institute Network said the CSU AgriPark in Wagga Wagga appealed to the company because of its central location and the alignment of values between park and the Seedcare Institute Centre.
Ms Pires said the opportunity to collaborate and educate were also appealing.
Seedcare Technical Services Lead Australia New Zealand, Mr Sean Roberts said the company was keen to work with the next generation of agricultural professionals.
“With the Seedcare Institute’s location within Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, there’s also capacity for agricultural science students to learn and contribute to this evolving field in agriculture,” Mr Roberts said.
“Once it’s up and running we are looking at getting students involved under internships.
“More generally, we’re also hoping to get the students involved through inclusion in the University’s curriculum.”
