Prize for social work student

A CSU social work graduate from Wagga Wagga will receive the inaugural Western District Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) Social Work Prize from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.

A social work graduate from Wagga Wagga will receive the inaugural Western District Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) Social Work Prize from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.

Bachelor of Social Work graduate Ms Lucy Holbrook will receive the award during a ceremony at CSU graduate Ms Lucy Holbrook and Dr Cate ThomasCharles Sturt University (CSU) in Wagga Wagga on Monday 15 December.

Ms Holbrook has been named the first recipient of the prize following her work placement with Community Services in Wagga Wagga earlier this year.

Ms Holbrook recently returning from a two week CSU Global study trip to south-west India to visit and meet workers in a range of community development and social justice programs.

In congratulating Ms Holbrook, Course Director from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at CSU in Wagga Wagga Dr Cate Thomas said, "This award is true recognition of the partnership that the Charles Sturt University has with the human services industry.

"I acknowledge FACS for making the award possible. It is also acknowledgement that we are working closely together to ensure our social work and human services programs are contemporary, meeting the needs of industry, and producing professionally ready graduates that are able to take up employment directly after graduation."

FACS Acting District Director Murrumbidgee, Ms Gargi Ganguly will attend the graduation ceremony from 9.30am in Joyes Hall, Pine Gully Road in Wagga Wagga.

The Western District Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) Social Work Prize is valued at $1 000 and is presented to a graduate who has undertaken their final social work placement working with children and families in a regional or a remote location in NSW.
