Television production students from CSU will make it back-to-back grand finals when they head to Narrandera this weekend to shoot the Riverina Australian Football League final.

Television production students from Charles Sturt University (CSU) will make it back-to-back grand finals when they head to Narrandera this weekend to shoot the Riverina Australian Football League final.

They will be in Narrandera on Sunday 21 September to capture the action when Collingullie- Ashmont-Kapooka takes on Mangoplah-Cookardinia-United Eastlakes.

TV production students from CSU at Maher Oval in Wagga Wagga.It follows the coverage of the Farrer League Grand Final at Maher Oval in Wagga Wagga by 30 television production students on Saturday 13 September.

In a new initiative between CSU and AFL Riverina, the grand finals are streamed live, with the Farrer League final receiving approximately 2 000 hits last week-end.

Lecturer in television production Mr Matthew Olsen from the School of Communication and Creative Industries at CSU said, "The students will be shooting three games of football and four games of netball at Narrandera Sportsground.

"They'll be doing everything from setting up the University's outside broadcast (OB) truck to pulling cables and directing. It's expected to be a 13-hour day for the students - exactly as it will be when they're in the workforce."

Television production student Lauren PeterieThe coverage of the Farrer and Riverina AFL Grand Finals is the final part of an OB subject for the Bachelor of Screen and Stage (Television Production) degree.   

"This is a great example of one of Charles Sturt University's strengths – an emphasis on student workplace learning. Through it they develop job skills, professionalism and industry awareness," Mr Olsen said.

"The experience takes the students into spaces they don't usually go in the second year of their degree."

Final year television production students from CSU have worked with AFL Riverina with three-member crews shooting and directing a weekly studio program for AFL Riverina TV.

The students have also been involved in a range of activities including the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers Conference in Sydney, the annual Food and Wine Festival in Wagga Wagga as well as the Twilight in Lagoon in the city in 2013.

The students will also capture the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day in Wagga Wagga in 2015.
