The International Nature Tourism Project is an arm of the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism.

  • The International Nature Tourism Project is an arm of the Cooperative Research Centre for Sustainable Tourism (CRC). It's aim is to facilitate sustainable development of nature based tourism industries, including exporting Australian tourism research, education and management expertise.
  • The Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) program was established by the Federal Government to establish collaborative links between industry, research organisations, educational institutions and government agencies. CSU is an associate partner of the Centre for Tourism, which includes 14 universities from across Australia.
  • CRC Tourism provides international research in sustainable tourism for the World Travel and Tourism Council - the global and business leader's forum for travel and tourism whose goal is to work with governments to realise the full economic impact of the travel and tourism industry.
  • The centre has an agreement with Green Globe - an environmental accreditation program for travel and tourism consumers - to deliver Green Globe 21 accreditation (21 standards of environmental credibility) to projects in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Through the association with Green Globe the International Nature Tourism Program is involved in projects in the following countries:-
    • China: to develop a country program in nature tourism research, development and education, in close consultation with Chinese authorities; to aid development of the tourism industry through the establishment of Green Globe; and to better understand China as a source market for Australian tourism.
    • Papua New Guinea: to aid in the development and promotion of a village-based tourism industry in the search for sustainable land uses that maintain the country's natural resources and can derive development.
    • Nepal: to aid in the development of a sustainable nature and culture based competitive tourism industry; consultation with government and local communities on the benefits of conservation, tourism education and research; and the development of a sustainable tourism industry through the establishment of Green Globe.
  • CRC Tourism Chief Executive Professor Terry DeLacy also heads the International Nature Tourism Program. He is a professor of environmental policy at the University of Queensland, and was previously director of the Albury-based Johnstone Centre and Head of the School of Environmental and Information Sciences at Charles Sturt University. Professor DeLacy has extensive experience in research in China, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand and Butan.
