Marketers challenged with a world first

CSU is set to become the only institution in Australia to offer a world's first degree in Marketing.

Charles Sturt University (CSU) is set to become the only institution in Australia to offer a world’s first degree in Marketing.

The world of marketing is intensely competitive and Australia’s top marketing professionals are searching for new challenges to sharpen their skills and qualifications to ensure they are at the top of their field according to Australian College of Marketing’s principal, Ms Emma Blackburn.

“The demand for this course stems from the fact that the world of marketing is changing,” Ms Blackburn said. “Although the theory of marketing has altered little over the last thirty years, it’s the application that is different. Marketers are expected to demonstrate both creative and analytical skills on a daily basis, and this move toward metrics needs to be addressed from an educational perspective. Marketers need to be better at promoting themselves and skills in the areas of metrics, strategic positioning and branding, relationship marketing and competitor analysis.”

Thanks to the collaboration of Charles Sturt University (CSU) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Master of Management (Chartered Marketer)  is the first of its kind - an industry based, advanced marketing qualification that demonstrates specialist professional knowledge across many areas for marketers working at a senior strategic level.

Internationally, the Chartered Marketer status is considered the marketing industry's highest grade and is awarded exclusively by The Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK in recognition of outstanding practical experience and expertise.

The aim of the course is to provide marketing professionals with the highest standard of skill which will enable them to promote a proactive and strategic marketing focus within the management structure of an organisation.

Chartered Marketer, Frances Day believes her qualifications have contributed significantly to her success, "In a climate that is very competitive, my chartered status gives me the edge when talking to my potential clients,” Ms Day said. “It has also opened up a variety of doors that would not necessarily have been available to me when speaking to business clients who have that all important marketing budget."

Chartered status represents the highest standards of professionalism and leadership globally, with up-to-date expertise and the ability to undertake independent practice which, according to CSU Master of Management course manager, Mr Mark Frost, makes this degree perfect for anyone with the potential to work as a CEO.

“With over 16 years experience in corporate banking, what disappoints me is that so few CEO’s have a marketing background and that marketing is not even part of the Senior Management Team in so many Australian Corporations” said Mr Frost. “This Masters has been specifically designed to ensure that senior marketing managers have the financial, strategic planning and HR skills to be an effective part of Senior Management Teams and to position them for future CEO roles.”

By teaming up with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, CSU is able to deliver a degree that equips professionals with a solid foundation in marketing theory, and gives the opportunity to put the theory into practice, explains Emma Blackburn from the Australian College of Marketing.

“The Master of Management (Chartered Marketer) elevates your knowledge, credibility and career to the next level,” Ms Blackburn said. “And when you study with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, you become part of the world's leading international body for professional marketers, joining a network of 300 study centres around the globe which helps over 50,000 marketers develop their careers each year.”
